USA - part 2

10 Jul 2006

Our initial stop over at Orlando’s Orange Lake Country Club was the first memorable and wonderful experience for all of us. Of course both Farah and Aisya were there and joined by John Arman later on. The resort , its surrounding and amenities were simply magnificent. There were so many things we could do to keep ourselves occupied and entertained at the resort alone, besides the other great and wonderful attractions in Orlando, the fun city of America.

The kids were thrilled by the "adventures" they experienced at the resort. This was a very laid back kind of vacation for all of us, in that we were not about to rush to do things because we know that we would have two weeks of stay in Orlando, although we would have to move out from Orange Lake and check in at Marriot’s Cypress Harbour resort in the second week.

Orange Lake Country Resort has two spacious bedrooms and a living room for extra accommodation, taking in all good for eight persons. The internal decor was superb and complete with everything one would need for a comfortable home stay. What we immediately notice was that there were no air-condition units. The Americans generally use very little air-conditioning because they believe in natural air and temperature, unlike in our country where air-conditions in the house are a necessity rather than luxury. Hence to our observation when John was with us in KL then, he turns off his car air-condition and if he could help it even his room air-condition was turned off and turned on only whenever its absolutely necessary. It is the opposite of what Ainul and I would have, with a steady 16 centigrade temperature for our bedroom and at times even the fan was full blast on. Whenever John visits our room, almost instantaneously he would exclaim "sejuk" !

Of course we also made visits to the famous Disney World and ever thrilled with the haunting music of "It’s a Small World After All !" Both of us could not forget the impact this place had on us when we first visited the Disneyland in Anaheim , Los Angeles, and that park was no where compared to this one in Orlando. There are more rides and sights and life shows to enjoy in Disney World and for us all, it took us one whole day to enjoy them all and even then we could not cover everything. We were fortunate this time around in that we were given free tickets for Sea World and Busch Gardens by Joan Jennrich, John’s mother. These were extra tickets she could not use when she last visited these attractions. Entrance fee for all these parks could cost a bombshell by our standards. Hence when we planned to go to the Disney’s attractions, John and I thought of looking for the cheapest offer and discounts which are usually available if you really look around.

At least I had experienced this in the past. To digress, at one time when we were in New York and we wanted to see all those stage shows, we were able to get at central park special tickets that went for only US$ 10.00. These were for the tourists and those who cannot afford to pay for the regular tickets price that could go to the hundreds ! Anyway, what happened in Orlando was that at the very resort where we stayed there were special offers for the parks. After paying the regular priced ticket, a mere US$5.00 for the additional open visits to the parks. Hence we could visit each park continuously at any day within the two weeks period from the purchased date. This came very handy indeed to us later on.

This visit to the theme parks was not so exciting to the both of us because of our ill-health. Even short distance walk there became a torture for me. I had to force Ainul to make regular stops each time. I felt short breath and the cough and running nose were persistently there throughout our stay in Orlando. It was fortunate that I made a recovery on the second day in Chicago.

However, to summarize our visit to Orlando, we were very satisfied with the whole idea of having John and family and Maisarah with us. We also discovered that it was John’s first visit there as an adult, when the last time he was taken there was when he was four years old and naturally he could not recall much of the place. Aisya and Maisarah had the best of each other’s company and we could hear their infectious laughter all the time !
