ramblings on a day

29 Dec 2015

society programs us to think in certain ways.
take birthdays for example.
we are meant to think that it is our special day.
a day to celebrate us being a year older.
a day where our wishes 'ought' to be granted.

what if we flipped that perception?
and instead, on our birthdays, ask ourselves,
what have we done for religion and society?
have we only taken, and not given back?
were we kind to our neighbours?
have we provided meaningful knowledge to our family?
or did we lead them further astray with useless information?

if we truly reflect,
birthdays are just like any other day.
one more day of grace to still be alive.
to fulfill our obligations to our religion, family and society.
to give and not to take.
and expect nothing in return.
and to prepare ourselves for the next life...
